Ecology, Conservation and Monitoring of Plant Diversity
Head of laboratory: Dr. Oana Gavrilaș
- Taxonomic identification of plants and plant samples;
- Handling temperature measuring instruments (loggers);
- Biomass and soil samples drying at proper temperatures;
- Weighing and measuring some plant functional traits by calculating SLA (specific leaf area) index, surface and biomass ratio;
- Testing seeds viability and germination capacity for wild plant species (native or allochthonous flora);
- Obtaining pharmaceutical plant extracts (by repercolation and/or hydrodistillation);
- Assessing in vitro antimicrobial activity (antibacterial, antifungal) of plant extracts (by agar dilution assay and diffusion test);
- Providing fungal specimens for further collaborations;
- Structural and ultrastructural characteristics of therapeutic plants by microscopy studies;
- Plant micropropagation by in vitro culture;
- Obtaining endemic/rare/endangered species from plant fragments and preserving them by slowing down the metabolism;
- Obtaining pathogen free plants;
- Obtaining/providing plants for different collections (botanical garden, etc.).
